Antique Bronze circular representation of the goddess Marici standing on a boar. An important deity in the Shingon and Tendai schools, Marici was adopted by the Bujin or Samurai in the 8th century as a protector and patron. The worship of Marici was to provide a way to achieve selflessness and compassion through Buddhist training According to Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. The deity Marici is associated with light and the sun. She is sometimes seen as a beautiful woman resting on a lotus here she is seen in as a ferocious form standing on top of a boar.
